Tid-Bits To A Christian Walk

Take A Stand For Christ

In the American culture, over the past several decades, Christians have lived on the backs of former revivals, the happened generations ago. The American Christian has been able to live a comparatively comfortable life compared to our international counterparts. Because of the high level of lifestyle and low level of persecution in America, Christians have been able to live a life of ease and comfort, until now! What we need is to take a stand for God, no matter the cost!

Today, we are seeing the culture clash with true Christianity. In our churches, pastors are clashing with their fellowships because the truth that they are serving up is distasteful to many who used to attend church. People have stopped attending many churches because either the church and pastor do not teach the Bible enough or in some cases, they do take a stand and teach the Bible, the truth being offensive.

Polarization in the Culture

There is a real polarization that is happening in American churches. Because of the consumerism of today’s church going, there are many without a church because they cannot find one that fits their culture well enough. Instead the Bible should be creating the culture for our churches instead of the World.

The “Western Culture” is at a point, where they are not bearing with Truth of the Gospel of Jesus Christ. Existentialism has won out, which means, whatever your truth is, and that is good for you and everyone should put up with it. We are seeing this played out in government schools, where God and Christianity are not welcome, but Eastern meditation, Atheism, Psychology, and Islam are welcome there. We are seeing this played out with the LGBTQIA+ movement. The name gets longer each year for who is included. The + sign now covers everything not come up with yet.

The sad thing is, that the movement believes that Christians hate them.  But God loves each person, but they often confuse taking a stand for truth and hate as the same thing.  Really, those who speak the truth are the ones who truly love.

We Need to Take a Stand!

We are at a precipice where we each need to take a stand for what is right. As a Christian, this means that the Bible is the basis for truth and I need to base truth on what is said. Our culture today has an absence of truth which has come from its Philosophy that there is no absolute truth. The culture is putting pressure on Christians to compromise our faith or take a stand. May I emphatically encourage you to take a stand with me?! Take a stand with the Lord! Take a stand with God’s Word!

In the book of Esther, Mordecai had to take a stand. He stood when everyone else bowed to Haman. There are always Haman’s looking for everyone to bow to them. But as Christians, since we know the truth of who Jesus Christ is, we bow to Him alone. The Haman’s of the World are asking us to bow to the new sexual revolution, bow to existentialism, and bow to the culture and their ever changes norms.

Bible Verses that Help to Take a Stand

There are a few Bible verses that help us take a stand in this time of pressure to bow:

Romans 12:2 KJV – “And be not conformed to this world: but be ye transformed by the renewing of your mind, that ye may prove what is that good, and acceptable, and perfect, will of God. “

John 15:18-19 KJV – “18 If the world hate you, ye know that it hated me before it hated you. 19 If ye were of the world, the world would love his own: but because ye are not of the world, but I have chosen you out of the world, therefore the world hateth you.”

John 17:14-16 KJV – “14 I have given them thy word; and the world hath hated them, because they are not of the world, even as I am not of the world. 15 I pray not that thou shouldest take them out of the world, but that thou shouldest keep them from the evil. 16 They are not of the world, even as I am not of the world.”1 John 5:19 KJV – “19 And we know that we are of God, and the whole world lieth in wickedness.”

John 12:31 KJV31 Now is the judgment of this world: now shall the prince of this world be cast out.

1 John 4:4 KJV – “Ye are of God, little children, and have overcome them: because greater is he that is in you, than he that is in the world.”

We are Different from the World

James 4:4 KJV – Ye adulterers and adulteresses, know ye not that the friendship of the world is enmity with God? whosoever therefore will be a friend of the world is the enemy of God.

1 John 2:15-17 KJV – 15 Love not the world, neither the things that are in the world. If any man love the world, the love of the Father is not in him. 16 For all that is in the world, the lust of the flesh, and the lust of the eyes, and the pride of life, is not of the Father, but is of the world. 17 And the world passeth away, and the lust thereof: but he that doeth the will of God abideth for ever.

This Place is not Our Home

  • John 18:36 KJV – 36 Jesus answered, My kingdom is not of this world: if my kingdom were of this world, then would my servants fight, that I should not be delivered to the Jews: but now is my kingdom not from hence.
  • Philippians 3:20 KJV – 20 For our conversation is in heaven; from whence also we look for the Saviour, the Lord Jesus Christ:
  • This is our temporary residence, so (1 Peter 2:11 KJV) 11 Dearly beloved, I beseech you as strangers and pilgrims, abstain from fleshly lusts, which war against the soul;
  •  The Bible teaches that this life on Earth is our temporary residence. It is more like a hotel room for us. When I stay in a hotel room, I don’t move all of my things from my house into the hotel. Instead, I pack a bag or two (or 200 if you are with my family), but the point is that we are staying long, so don’t worry about the temporary situation.

This life is to have minimal importance to us. Yeah, keep the hotel room organized; keep some minimal necessities and a few favorites with you. But let’s store our treasure in heaven instead of here on Earth.

Let’s not worry about what the culture is telling us is the norm. Because this is our temporary residence. This place is not our home. We need to stand for the Lord, be the influencers and give hope to a lost and dying world and not be influenced by a generation, a world that is hopeless. They need us to take a stand to show them the way, the truth, the Life….Who is Jesus Christ!

10 Things To Help Enhance Our Relationship With Christ

Do you feel far from God? Like any relationship, our relationship with God requires work. In order to feel close to God, we have to know God. In order to know God, we must spend time with him

Think about a car. Eventually, a car runs out of gas and needs to be refueled. Our spiritual lives are just like cars. If we don’t refuel our hearts, we will be empty tanks unable to function.

GET REAL WITH YOURSELF. HOW ARE YOU AND GOD DOING?

  • When was the last time you spent quality time with God?
  • When was the last time you felt awe over the love of God?

In the busyness of life, it is easy to stop spending time with God. I want to challenge you to invest in your relationship with Him. Not only is it the most important relationship you’ll ever have, but it also helps you have better relationships with everyone else in your life. If you are struggling in your relationship with God, check out the tips below to learn how to keep your relationship fresh.

10 WAYS TO ENHANCE YOUR RELATIONSHIP WITH JESUS FRESH

  1. Prioritize God in your schedule. Make time for God. Spend daily time in the Word. Even Jesus prioritized spending time with God. “Immediately Jesus made his disciples get into the boat and go on ahead of him to Bethsaida, while he dismissed the crowd. After leaving them, he went up on a mountainside to pray.” Mark 6:45-46.
  2. Preach the gospel to YOURSELF. As humans, we are forgetful and need to hear the gospel over and over again. Share the gospel with yourself as you drive in the car or in the mirror as you get ready in the morning. The more you repeat the redeeming story of Christ, the more the story will be ingrained into your mind.
  3. Find a new devotional book. It is important to connect with others and read scripture together. Can you think of a friend who would love to start a new devotional book with you?
  4. Get up early and pray. Even Jesus dedicated his time to pray to God. “And rising very early in the morning, while it was still dark, he departed and went out to a desolate place, and there he prayed.Mark 1:35.
  5. Join a church Bible study or small group. Are you a part of a Christian community? Join a church. Find others to meet with regularly to discuss God’s word. Get involved. Serve.
  6. Journal.  Journaling changed my relationship with God. Write down all the good things God is showing you and teaching you. Re-read old journals when you need a reminder of God’s faithfulness and love.
  7. Listen to the Bible. While I get ready in the morning, I use the You Version Bible app to have the Bible read out loud. This is a fun and easy way to add scripture into parts of your day during which you cannot physically read the text.
  8. Memorize scripture.
  9. Find an accountability partner. Find another believer in your area or in your Christian community and schedule times to talk and keep each other accountable.
  10. Turn to God, even when He feels far. Even Jesus turned to God even when he did not understand God’s plan. “And they went to a place called Gethsemane. And he said to his disciples, “Sit here while I pray.”  And he took with him Peter and James and John, and began to be greatly distressed and troubled.  And he said to them, “My soul is very sorrowful, even to death. Remain here and watch. Mark 14:32-34.

To know God, we have to spend time with Him. Even Jesus had to spend time with God, and he is God! How important is it then that we mere humans spend time with God?
